The USMLE steps are one of the most important parts of your application. They consist in four exams structured to assess your abilities as a physician in all the possible aspects.
All physicians, AMG’s and IMG’s, willing to obtain a position as a resident in the United States must complete and pass the first three exams: Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS.
You can enter the matching process with only one exam passed, but you must complete all examinations before any appointment is addressed to you.
Always consider that you can’t retake any of the USMLE components once you pass it, which means that once you pass the exam your final score will remain in your records during the whole residency matching process.
